LIV Launches the 1975 Internship Program

Legal Initiatives for Viet Nam (LIV) is proud to announce the launch of the 1975 Internship Program—an annual opportunity dedicated to empowering the next generation of Vietnamese diaspora youth to reconnect with their heritage, develop a strong identity, build meaningful cross-border networks, and contribute to shaping a freer, more just Viet Nam and thus a more just world.

In its first phase, the program will focus on second-generation overseas Vietnamese with a refugee family background, offering them the chance to deepen their understanding of Viet Nam’s history, politics, and society—particularly the legacies of the Viet Nam War—and to engage in dialogue aimed at reconciliation and shared future-building with youth inside Viet Nam. In the future, LIV aims to expand the program to welcome candidates from broader backgrounds who share the same commitment and passion.

The 1975 Internship features a 6-week, on-site experience in Taipei, Taiwan, where participants will receive formal training from experienced journalists, historians, and democracy advocates; participate in study tours; complete content production and research assignments; and connect with a network of like-minded young people from Viet Nam and around the world. Beyond the initial internship, participants who have demonstrated strong performance will be invited to continue contributing to community initiatives, discussions, and media platforms such as Luật Khoa and The Vietnamese Magazine.

At its heart, the 1975 Program is about learning, connecting, and healing. It seeks to build bridges across generations and geographies—between those whose families fled Viet Nam after 1975 and those who have grown up inside the country—toward a future based on understanding, freedom, and shared civic values.
