Safeguarding the talawas’ Legacy: Announcing the Website Acquisition

Legal Initiatives for Vietnam is honored to announce the acquisition of talawas from Phạm Thị Hoài and the founding team on September 12, 2026. This initiative aims to preserve one of the earliest and most vital independent online publications in Vietnamese journalism history.

During its nine-year run from 2001 to 2010, talawas had served as an essential forum for artists, scholars, and critical thinkers. Through nearly 18,000 published pieces, it offered readers at home and abroad invaluable insights into Vietnamese history, politics, law, literature, and arts. Together, these works form an irreplaceable archive of the country’s first decade in the 21st century.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the talawas team for their extraordinary dedication despite immensely challenging conditions, and for entrusting us with this legacy. We are fully committed to keeping this torch lit in service of the public interest.

The website will be preserved in its original form, keeping both its full content and original layout. You can access the archive at: talawas.org.
