LIV Receives Grant from the Lê Đình Điểu and Diane Lê Memorial Fund

Legal Initiatives for Vietnam (LIV) is honored to announce the receipt of a grant administered through the Orange County Community Foundation (OCCF), facilitated by the Lê Đình Điểu and Diane Lê Memorial Fund. On Sept. 8, 2026, the OCCF formally issued a $1,000.00 check to LIV. This financial backing from donors Hạo-Nhiên Vũ and Ysa Lê is crucial for sustaining our ongoing campaigns, operational efforts, and organizational objectives.

In accepting this donation, LIV confirms strict adherence to the foundation’s ethical guidelines. The organization guarantees that it will use the funds exclusively for non-profit purposes. Furthermore, LIV affirms that no individuals affiliated with the fund received benefits, goods, or services—including memberships, dinners, or event tickets—in exchange for their generosity.

This grant serves as a tribute to renowned journalist Lê Đình Điểu, whose career spanned the Republic of Vietnam and the Vietnamese diaspora. 

Before 1975, he worked as a special correspondent for Việt Tấn Xã, the Republic of Vietnam’s official news agency. Điểu helped administer journalism training in Đà Lạt, and later held government information and press positions. After his imprisonment in communist “reeducation” camps from 1975 to 1981, he moved to France in 1983 and worked for Chiến Hữu. He later edited for Diễn Đàn Người Việt. 

Two years later in 1985, Điểu settled in the United States, became editor-in-chief of Người Việt, and was elected the newspaper company’s general director in 1988. In California, he also played a central role in running the journal Thế Kỷ 21 before turning his attention to VNCR radio in 1995, extending his journalism career across print and broadcasting and helping sustain Vietnamese-language public debate overseas. 

LIV extends its deepest gratitude to Hạo-Nhiên Vũ, Ysa Lê, and the OCCF for the honor of receiving a grant under the name of journalist Lê Đình Điểu. This generous support provides vital financial backing and strengthens the organization’s resolve to continue its work, further its cause, and honor the legacy of the Lê Đình Điểu and Diane Lê Memorial Fund.
